In this episode of The Atticus Report, Rick Busby and Stephen Doster host legendary singer-songwriter Bob Livingston in an episode titled “Cosmic Cowboys & Indians.”
Livingston’s musical journey begins in Lubbock, Texas where an encounter with a young Joe Ely transformed his life and set him on a musical journey that has literally taken him around the world as an ambassador of Texas music. A founding member of the Lost Gonzo Band, Livingston performed with some of the biggest names in the progressive country movement of the 1970s, including Michael Martin Murphy, Jerry Jeff Walker and Ray Wylie Hubbard, among many others. When the popularity of progressive country began to wane in the 80s, Livingston’s growing fascination with India led to reinventing himself as a musical ambassador. He has since travelled the world for the U.S. State Department performing and teaching the history of folk and country music in more than 30 countries, while continuing to write, record and release brilliant albums like Original Spirit and Gypsy Alibi.
Along the way, he has collected stories of his experiences and has developed the keen skills of an adroit storyteller, which are currently culminating in his first book to be published in 2017. Join us as we spend an enchanting time with Bob Livingston, hearing his tales and the music he has created and co-created with some of Texas music’s most legendary names.
